I love the aromas of peaches, wild roses and wild herbs of this very attractive and well-structured dry Mosel riesling. Excellent concentration on the medium-bodied palate, with stacks of herbal and spicy nuances in the long and polished finish. A cuvee of wines from the Himmelreich and Sonnenuhr sites of Zeltingen. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Riesling Zeltinger Alte Reben trocken comes from the Schlossberg, Himmelreich and Sonnenuhr sites in Zeltingen, with vines averaging 60 years old. Subtle herbal savor offers yarrow and a touch of tansy. The palate is serene, concentrated and beautifully tangy, with citric brightness. This very restrained wine is full of direction, offering depth rather than strength and a long echo.(AK)

From the Himmelreich and Sonnenuhr, the 2023 Zeltinger Riesling trocken "Alte Reben" is quite intense and concentrated on the pure and flinty nose, yet it is a bit muted in terms of expression. Medium-bodied, savory and grippy on the palate, this is a quite intense yet slightly rustic Riesling. It was vinified in fuders and bottled in August 2024 along with the grand crus (GG). The finish is quite astringent and not very charming or stimulating. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026.(SR)

Notes

90pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 36 24. The 2023er Riesling Spätlese Trocken Alte Reben was made from 45-50-year-old (on average) vines in the Sonnenuhr and Himmelreich and was fermented and matured in Fuder. It offers a beautifully smoky and aniseed nose of spearmint, wild herbs, licorice, acacia, lavender, thyme, and laurel, with just a hint of grapefruit and blackberry in the background. The wine shows good presence and finesse on the medium-weighted and delicately creamy palate. The finish proves very long and smoky. This is a superb dry Riesling. 2026-2033."(01/2025)
