Review Date: 12/2020Pure, unadulterated cassis and blackberry extend from nose to finish in this intensely concentrated Syrah. Made from partially destemmed grapes, it's rich and glossy but shaded by hints of dark earth, granite and leather. Ripe, integrated tannins seem coated in cocoa powder and chalk. Approachable already but should improve through 2030 and hold further. *Editors' Choice* (ALI)

Lively, with a bramble note amid the core of steeped raspberry and blackberry fruit, giving this a juicy and grippy feel. Extra licorice root, sweet tobacco and roasted apple wood accents fill in throughout. A modern take on Cornas that doesn't neglect the savory side. Best from 2021 through 2040. (JM)

The 2017 Cornas Les Grands Mûriers is a more friendly, forward, seductive wine that has classic notes of spicy black fruits, new saddle leather, licorice, and earthy, herbal undertones. Full-bodied and downright sexy on the palate, drink it over the coming decade or so.

This has a deeply rich and ripe, dark-berry and plum-fruited feel with a dark-clove and cardamom nose, as well as a smoky edge. The palate has sleek and powerful, horizontal tannins, nicely layered and carrying good depth into the finish. Drink or hold.
