Deep and restrained with sleek elegance. Aromatic sweet violets are infused with orange zest, red currants and strawberries, slightly waxy and savory. The dense, full-bodied palate is crisp and firm yet velvety, showing subtle, concentrated fruit. Fresh and long with a thick finish, a bit sanguine and salty. Drinkable upon spring release but best from 2027. (AF)

Vinous

Review Date: 01/2026
The 2022 Barolo Cannubi is a very pleasant, soft wine. Juicy red cherry/plum fruit, spice, blood orange and cedar are pushed forward. This mid-weight Barolo does not show most of the signs of a brutally warm and dry year—there is lovely freshness here. At the same time, the 2022 is a bit light, especially in the mid-palate, suggesting full phenolic ripeness was not reached. It's a wine that highlights the paradox of so many wines in this vintage because of its freshness but lighter structure vis-à-vis most years. (AG)

The 2022 Cannubi is a triumph of finesse over heat. It is deep and restrained, showing a sleek elegance that is hard to find in a warm year. Expect a myriad of sweet perfumes—red fruit, spice, and the signature balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus that only this hill can provide. Suckling calls it "profound in its depths" with plush tannins you can really sink your teeth into.

Notes

The 2022 E. Pira Chiara Boschis "Cannubi" Barolo is a refined and elegant expression from one of the world's most famous vineyards. It features a high-toned aromatic profile of sweet violets, red currants, and strawberries infused with orange zest and savory, waxy undertones. On the palate, it is full-bodied and "sleek," balancing concentrated fruit with velvety, firm tannins and a persistent, saline finish. While it possesses the characteristic "Cannubi" grace and immediate appeal, its depth and structure indicate it will benefit from cellaring through 2027 and beyond.
