Outstanding for its pure savoriness on the nose, showing earthy strawberries, peonies, violet candies and restrained blood oranges. Intense. Relaxed on the attack but with firm, dusty tannins and crisp, slightly lifted acidity. The finish is tight and austere yet juicy and balanced. This deserves time for better integration. Try from 2029. (AF)

The 2022 Barolo Via Nuova is a superb wine for the year. It benefits from a blend of seven vineyards that compensates for many of the extremes of the year. Bright red cherry fruit, blood orange, chalk, mint and white pepper lend notable energy, along with a feeling of translucence that is compelling. Vineyard sites are Terlo, Liste and Paiagallo (Barolo); Gabutti and Baudana (Serralunga) and Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (Monforte). The blend really does rule in 2022. (AG)

The "New Road" is outstanding for its pure savoriness in 2022. It is a vibrant, mid-weight Barolo that perfectly balances the characteristics of its six constituent vineyards. Expect earthy strawberries, peonies, and restrained blood orange on the nose, with a silky, dainty palate and tannins that add a surprising, chocolatey touch.

Notes

The 2022 E. Pira Chiara Boschis "Via Nuova" Barolo is a masterfully blended, organic expression that captures the breadth of the region by sourcing fruit from six distinct MGA sites across Barolo, Monforte d’Alba, and Serralunga d'Alba. The nose is exceptionally savory and floral, offering notes of earthy strawberries, peonies, orange peel, and crushed minerals. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and remarkably seamless, balancing ripe red fruit with finely polished, silky tannins and a refreshing acidity that belies the warmth of the 2022 vintage. While approachable early due to its harmonious structure, it possesses the "inner fiber" and balance to evolve beautifully in the cellar for 15+ years.
