Joyous as ever, this is ecstatically aromatic with rose petals, blueberries, lilacs and smoky spices. Layers of ripe red fruits pile onto the palate, focused by lacey tannins and some crunchy sea salt tang. Latricières certainly retained its freshness as the coolest Grand Cru in Gevrey, despite the hot vintage. The Drouhin-Laroze parcel measures 0.80 hectare, but about one-third has been pulled out for replanting.

A darker colour with a richer riper nose, Latricières has caught the sun more than Chapelle. It was picked later as coming from a cooler site, but with more clay, especially in the lower part of the plot. This is not too heavy though, nor too cooked – it is just the contrast which is interesting. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

Note: from a .67 ha parcel of extremely old vines. An interesting nose is at once quite cool but also markedly ripe as there is a touch of bitter chocolate character to the nose of airy red berry and wet stone aromas. The finer but not richer or more voluminous flavors are definitely more mineral-driven while delivering slightly better depth and persistence on the balanced, youthfully austere and balanced finale.

The 2023 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a lifted nose with a slightly more savory bouquet, opening nicely with aeration: red berry fruit, sous-bois and light minty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite grippy tannins, dark berry fruit and a more structured finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.(NM)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Half of this was replanted, but the first vintage with those young vines will be 2024 – so this is from their 60-70 year-old vines… All the grand crus see 80% new oak here – except Musigny, which is 100%. Larger scale perfume – some rose complexity here too. Open, so elegant and melting. Sappy again – that’s a lovely intensity. I love it – what a simply excellent grand cru !!"(01/2025)
