The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an intense bouquet with black cherry, raspberry and violet scents that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and very pure, with saturated tannins, impressive depth and plenty of blue fruit on the finish that makes it seem like a Bonnes-Mares. Superb.(NM)

The firmly-structured, satisfying Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Drouhin-Laroze sits somewhere between their massive Bonnes-Mares and more elegant wines, such as the Chambertin Close de Bèze. The ripe blackberry fruit is complemented by firm, slightly rustic notes of cedar, wood smoke and flinty minerals. The texture is solid without being heavy, and the finish is satisfyingly long. The grapes are from the parcel of just over one hectare that the domaine acquired from the estate of Léonce Bocquet in 1920.(CC)

Entirely destemmed, as usual, this comes from a 1.03 ha plot just south of the Château. Effusively ripe, this projects black fig compote, clove, potting soil and candied black raspberries. The tannins are firm and lightly drying while the acidity relaxes in the wings. Not as poised as usual at this stage, this needs a second winter and some time in bottle to gather its charm.

All destemmed because of millerand grapes. A dense black colour, this shows some concentration in bouquet, dark black fruit, which continues on the palate, solid, though in this vintage not too muscular, with an attractive dark berry aftertaste. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Here’s a width of more textural, slightly spiced aroma – slowly growing with a floral accent. Fluid, energetic – extra intensity running through the core – this is a wine with a lovely chiselled character – which has more structural aspects but nothing that would stop me from drinking it already – simply excellent CV !!"(01/2025)
