The 2021 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a very pretty, juicy wine. Succulent red fruit, cinnamon, dried leaves, cedar and blood orange are front and center, wrapped up by soft contours that add to the wine's seductive feel. This plush, inviting Barolo is not exactly complex, but it sure is tasty. (AG)

A blend from all four Santa Maria vineyards, this is La Morra in its most immediate, charming form: succulent red fruit, cinnamon, dried leaves, and a note of blood orange, carried on soft, rounded tannins. Galloni described it as a "plush, inviting Barolo," and that is exactly its appeal. It's the bottle to open on a Tuesday, the one that reminds you Barolo can be a pleasure rather than a project. Ready now, and it will hold comfortably for five to seven years.

Cristian Boffa is a small family producer in the La Morra borgata of Alessandria in the Santa Maria commune, where Cristian, his parents Stefano and Marilena, and his sister Miriam farm five hectares of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto on clay-rich soils at 250 to 300 meters elevation across four Santa Maria vineyard sites: Bricco Chiesa, Santa Maria, Galina, and Capalot. The Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a blend of fruit from all four Santa Maria vineyards, with the estate's first labeled Barolo produced in 2014 from just 500 bottles.
