2021 00 Wines "Hyland Vineyard" McMinnville Pinot Noir

Jeb Dunnuck
Review Date: 09/2023The 2021 Pinot Noir Hyland is exuberant in its personality from own-rooted Coury clone of vines, from a very small parcel within that has direct influence from the Van Duzer Corridor cooling winds. Ripe with aromas of both ripe red and black berries but also has orange oil citrus, and white pepper. Medium to full-bodied it offers a silky texture, with a floral profile, and is absolutely irresistible now. Long on the palate it is going to have a very large drinking window over the coming 15 or more years. (AF)

This is very beautiful and subtle with sliced hibiscus, dried strawberry, raspberry and lemongrass. Some volcanic undertones. It’s medium-bodied with light fine tannins and a crunchy, crisp finish. Lightly chewy. A subtle and vivid wine with sophisticated character. Own-rooted vineyards, planted in 1972. Known as the Coury clone. Rather ethereal. Drink after 2025.

Earthy with a pleasantly herbal tinge, the 2021 Pinot Noir Hyland lifts from the glass with a spicy blend of dried strawberries, cola and gingery spice. The silky texture is lifted in feel with a savory mix of red berry fruits underscored by saline minerals. The Hyland drenches the palate with primary concentration, leaving a coating of grippy tannins under an air of rosy florals. The 2021 is quite inward today but with the balance for a long and steady evolution. This hails from own-rooted vines from one of the oldest vineyards in Oregon, planted in 1972. It's one of the most well-rounded and complete wines from 00's Pinot portfolio. (EG)
