2016 Domaine Coche-Dury Bourgogne Rouge (depressed cork)
90
John Gilman
Review Date: 12/2018The domaine’s Bourgogne rouge is deep and quite concentrated from the short yields of 2016. The bouquet delivers a fine mix of black cherries, dark chocolate, a fine base of soil, woodsmoke and a nice touch of gamebird in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and has a bit of backend tannin to resolve, with a rock solid core (particularly for Bourgogne!), fine focus and grip and a long, promising and atypically powerful finish. This is very good and will be quite long-lived for this bottling, but will need some time in the cellar to blossom.

An exuberantly fresh and notably ripe nose combines notes of plum, black raspberry and plenty of earth that can also be found on the round, delicious and impressively dense flavors that possess a lovely mid-palate texture that contrasts somewhat with the mildly rustic finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne with ample aging potential too. *Outstanding*

Bursting with aromas of cherries and dried flowers, subtly framed by new oak, the 2016 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is medium-bodied, satiny and supple, laden with juicy, crunchy fruit. It's an attractively pure, succulent wine from Coche-Dury. (WK)
