2023 Domaine Dagueneau "Buisson-Renard" Vin de France (Pouilly-Fumé)
Notes
After Didier Dagueneau’s untimely death in 2008, his son Louis-Benjamin stepped into the cellar, preserving the domaine’s uncompromising approach to Sauvignon Blanc while continuing to refine one of the Loire’s most iconic estates. Alongside Pur Sang and Silex, Buisson-Renard remains one of the domaine’s key single-vineyard bottlings, highlighting Dagueneau’s long-held belief that Pouilly-Fumé should be understood through individual terroirs rather than broad appellation blends. The wine comes from a southwest-facing parcel on the mid-slope of the hill of Saint-Andelain, the highest village in the appellation, planted entirely on silex soils. Originally known as Buisson Menard, the vineyard was mistakenly referred to as Buisson-Renard by a French wine journalist. In classic Didier fashion, he embraced the error and officially renamed the wine the following vintage as a cheeky nod to the mix-up. Fermented primarily in large 450L and 600L barrels, the wine gains texture and dimension without losing its precision. With a few years in bottle, Buisson-Renard develops that unmistakable Dagueneau signature: layered richness and breadth balanced by a driving streak of smoky, flinty minerality.
