Aromas of lychee, yellow pear, Spanish broom and botanical herb beguile on the Roagna 2023 Derthona Montemarzino. Made with Timorasso and fermented in large oak with indigenous yeasts and aged for two years in the same vats, the palate shows great class and elegant restraint, offering ripe yellow pear, unsweetened lemon drop, graphite and hazelnut before closing on a saline tang. Fresh acidity keeps it energized and balanced. Drink or hold for even more complexity. (KO)

The 2023 Timorasso Derthona Montemarzino is gorgeous. Luca Roagna has crafted a Timorasso that marries the textural and structural presence typical of this variety with a good deal of the finesse that runs through all his wines. The result is a Timorasso of uncommon elegance. Hints of dried pear, chamomile, mint, spice and crushed flowers build gradually over time. A long, resonant finish wraps it all together effortlessly. An elegant white, this offers floral, lemon, apple and beeswax aromas and flavors, with subtle shades of pine and sage. Fresh and precise, with terrific balance and a tangy, saline finish. Drink now through 2040. 240 cases made, 30 cases imported. (BS)

Notes

Roagna’s Montemarzino Derthona is a striking and terroir-driven expression of Timorasso, showcasing depth, minerality, and aging potential. The nose is complex and layered, revealing aromas of ripe pear, golden apple, and citrus zest, intertwined with notes of acacia honey, wild herbs, and flinty minerality. The palate is rich yet vibrant, offering juicy orchard fruit, saline undertones, and a structured mineral core, all lifted by bright acidity. A long, elegant finish lingers with nuances of toasted almond, wet stone, and subtle spice.
