Reviewed June 2026*Decanter Best in Show World Wine Awards 2026* Like Chablis and the Côte d’Or, the Mâconnais had a tough (and sodden) time of it over the course of the 2024 vintage, but it did have an ace up its sleeve: August here was warmer and sunnier than elsewhere in Burgundy (328 hours of sunshine was significantly above its long-term average), and that put the wines of this sub-region on a firmer foundation than elsewhere. In any case, Pouilly-Fuissé usually delivers some of Bourgogne's ripest white wines every year. This Premier Cru version (only the second Best In Show appearance for a Pouilly-Fuissé) has assurance and wealth to it, indeed even a little appealing baby fat. There are delicious hazels and peach fruits apparent on the aroma, and the flavours are rich, sapid, vinous and structured, with appetising melon and peach generosity. The vintage adds an undertow of vivacious acidity relatively rare in recent years in Pouilly-Fuissé, too, lending the wine additional poise and drinkability.

This is my favorite wine of the Chateau Vitallis range with a purity of fruit, precision, complexity and depth rarely found in a white Burgundy at this price. 2024 is one of the best white Burgundy vintages this century and it is readily apparent in this stunning value!

The Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Pouilly" comes from a single vineyard on the family's historic estate in Solutré-Pouilly. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. This is the sixth and final wine in the 2024 Château Vitallis lineup, all of them tremendous values that consistently delight and overdeliver. Each has its own distinct personality, and this one delivers richness and finesse with notes of apple, pear, flaky pastry, subtle hints of marzipan, and baking spices. The finish undulates with refreshing layers of lemon, pear, jasmine blossom, and rose. Yes, it’s all that and more. So very good. I'll definitely be following this Direct Import Burgundy superstar.

This bottling has some very nicely rounded yellow pear flavors of scents, along with the peachiness that this whole line retains. The upper palate has some nicely (lightly) roasted nut flavors with clean cedary wood notes. Like the "Vielles Vignes", this one is also on the richer side. However, it never goes past that certain point in which many chardonnays can. It is just right! This one will be perfect with many different styles of chicken, fish and crustaceans.
