Vinous
Review Date: 08/2023The 2021 Chardonnay Alder Springs is a gorgeous, engaging wine redolent of floral, savory and earthy notes. This Mendocino County Chardonnay has a ton of character. Chamomile, apricot, mint, spice and almond linger on the exquisite finish. (AG)

This wine is exuberant, lush, with aromas of Pink Lady apple, orange blossom, Kaffir lime, on the nose. The palate is pink grapefruit, freshly crushed green herbs, descending into green apple, spearmint, lemon honey, finishing with orange zest and mineral. This is a classic example of fruit from this vineyard. Beautiful. Pair with steamed crab and butter.

Lovely phenolic tension with a minerally undertone as well as seashells and limes with some green apples. Moss, too. Medium body. Firm and polished. Savory and nicely salty.

One of the most magical bottles of Chardonnay I’ve tasted in 2026. That might seem like a bold statement given the number of wines I get to taste, but this wine just really resonates with my palate and delivers everything I want in this style of Chardonnay.
It starts with a wonderful riff of matchstick and struck-flint reduction - not overpowering, but definitely a significant aromatic component that sets the tone. Beneath that, there’s beautifully ripe golden fruit: baked peach, nectarine, then sharper notes of preserved lemon and salted key lime. Richly textured, yet long, precise, and laser-focused through the finish, with mouthwatering acidity and reverberating flavor intensity.
Richness and restraint done to perfection. I love this wine.

Email MatthewThis is California Chardonnay with a cooler, more restrained edge. Fresh lemon, green apple, and white peach lead the way, layered with subtle hints of almond, wet stone, and just a whisper of oak. The texture is sleek and polished rather than heavy, with a bright acidity carrying the wine through a long, lifted finish. A great pick for anyone who loves chardonnay but wants precision and balance over richness. Elegant, food-friendly, and quietly impressive.

Email ScottThis wonderfully flinty and clean Chardonnay has some very nice mid-palate flavors of Granny Smith apples, juicy oranges, tart pineapple and super crisp lemon-lime citrus. Underneath it all is a deft bit of savory herbs and orange blossom. The finish is clean and slightly rich at the same time. It simply begs to be served with fatty fish, scallops, lobster.
