Reviewed May 2025The 2022 Barbaresco Normale from the Rocca family’s lovely La Ca’Növa estate is a beautifully classic example of Barbaresco, hailing from limestone-rich soils, fermented with native yeasts, given a thirty day maceration period and raised in classic botti prior to bottling. The wine shows the style of the 2022 vintage, coming in at 14.5 percent octane and delivering a very deep, pure and complex bouquet of red and black cherries, anise, woodsmoke, a lovely base of chalky soil, rose petals and a touch of red curry in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a gorgeous core of fruit, tangy acids, chewy, well-integrated tannins and superb length and grip on the precise and very nicely balanced finish. Vinous
The 2022 Barbaresco is a fine entry-level offering from La Ca' Nova. Bright red-toned fruit and floral notes give this mid-weight Barbaresco plenty of up-front appeal. All the elements are very nicely balanced. There is a bit of grippiness on the finish that requires aeration, but that is the style of the year in many wines. The straight Barbaresco is a blend from parcels in Ovello, Cole and Loreto. La Ca' Nova remains one of Piedmont’s under-the-radar gems. Marco Rocca turns out wines of character that reflect the finest of the artisan tradition in the Langhe. (AG)

A mid-weight, charming blend of parcels in Ovello, Cole, and Loreto. It’s a red-toned, fruit-forward entry-level wine that offers incredible value, though its 2022 grippiness suggests it benefits from a quick decant.
Notes
The 2022 La Ca' Növa Barbaresco is a superb "normale" bottling that serves as a benchmark for value and terroir in the region. Sourced from the Ovello, Cole, and Loreto vineyards, it offers an explosion of red-toned fruit, rose petals, and savory spice. On the palate, it is deep and layered with a succulent core of cherry and plum, balanced by a characteristic tannic grip and a mineral-drenched finish. While more open-knit and approachable than the single-vineyard crus, it retains a classic, structured backbone that will allow it to age gracefully for a decade or more.
