Reviewed November 2024In the bottle with the cream-colored label, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Rossofonte reveals ripe fruit from a hot vintage, but you also get thorny or brambly aromas that recall forest floor or grilled rosemary. There is a sweet side to the mouthfeel, and the fruit is one-dimensional, ending with a powerful 15% alcohol. Production is 8,600 bottles.

The wine is characterized by a complex nose of spiced cherries, star anise, and balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and plush, balancing ripe red fruit with savory earthiness and a mineral-driven finish. It spent 12 months in Slavonian oak, giving it a more structured and sophisticated profile than a standard Rosso.
