Crushed blackberries combine with rosemary, crushed stone and hints of olive as the 2024 Rosso di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is cool-toned and silky with sleek red berry fruits and crunchy mineral tones. A web of fine tannins frames a tart raspberry resonance on the long, classically dry finish. This is easily one of the most enjoyable Rossos I've tasted from Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona. (EG)

The 2024 Rosso di Montalcino from Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona is a quintessential Rosso with aromas of lavender, small forest berry, citrus and Mediterranean scrub. On the lithe, elegant palate, fresh acidity and polished tannins accompany succulent Morello cherry, eucalyptus and star anise before a bitter orange close.

Delicate and fragrant, with ripe wild strawberries, cherries, sandalwood and cloves on the nose. Rather light on the palate but fluid and transparent, with a clean, graceful finish. (AS)

Notes

Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona blends one of Montalcino’s most dramatic backstories with some of the region’s most grounded, traditional winemaking. The estate began as a 17th-century bishop’s palace built by Fabivs de’ Vecchis, later passing through auction to Countess Eva Bernini Cerretani and then the Ciacci family. Its modern era truly ignited in 1985, when longtime estate manager Giuseppe Bianchini unexpectedly inherited the property, shifting it toward quality-driven viticulture. Today the winery farms 55.5 hectares in southeastern Montalcino, focusing on Sangiovese from the Pianrosso vineyard. Fermentations run in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with long aging in large Slavonian oak casks and certified organic farming guiding the estate’s classic Brunello style.
