Intensity and elegance dominate in this wine. The nose shows aromatic herbs, eucalyptus, bramble fruit and sweet spices. Full-bodied, it has firm, velvety tannins, refreshing acidity, a slightly chalky finish and a long, savory aftertaste. Drinkable now, but best in two or three years. (JS)

The Tenuta di Biserno 2022 Biserno, a dark and rich blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, reveals layered aromas of dark fruit, sweet spice and campfire ember. A bright note of candied orange adds multidimensionality and a touch of extra sweetness, lifting the overall profile. Fermented in steel and aged for 15 months in mostly new French barriques, the wine reflects a hot vintage yet avoids feeling weighed down, finishing with soft, sweet tannins and a polished texture. The 2022 Biserno is soft, vibrant and inviting. Silky contours and supple fruit lend tons of immediacy. Plum, pomegranate, blood orange and menthol are nicely amplified in the glass. The 2022 signals a transition towards a more restrained style than in the past, something that is hard to fully see in a vintage marked by late-season rain but that is nevertheless quite evident. Hints of spice linger on the exceptionally finessed finish. (AG)

This is ripe, offering plum, blackberry, black cherry, coconut and mineral flavors, yet remains fresh and focused. Shows fine balance among its components, and the long, spicy aftertaste completes the profile. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2038. 500 cases imported. (BS)

Following the phenomenal success of our previous offers, I am thrilled to announce we have secured another remarkable close-out deal on the newly released 2022 vintage. The wine beautifully showcases the estate's unique terroir in the Alta Maremma and the ingenuity of Bordeaux varietals, where it is grown. In the Bolgheri region, "Biserno" is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, all beautifully combined. The 2022 vintage, characterized by its brilliant sunshine and warmth, has yielded a wine of incredible depth. The nose is spectacularly rich and expressive, bursting with notes of ripe blackberry, dark plum, and crushed cherries. With hints of roasted espresso, cedar, tobacco, and graphite, it is incredibly plush and polished on the palate. Velvety, fine-grained tannins and a lively acidity keep the wine remarkably fresh and vibrant, carrying dark fruits, chocolate, and a touch of savory Mediterranean herbs through a lengthy finish. For those who appreciate the ingenuity of great Super Tuscans, the 2022 Tenuta di Biserno is a superb wine that combines Antinori's cultural heritage with the sun-drenched character of the Tuscan coast. It is a masterpiece that belongs in the cellar of any avid collector. Maybe the most underrated of the Antinori's line up.

Notes

Antonio Galloni's notes on the producer for Vinous: "I was deeply impressed with these wines from Biserno. The new Cabernet Franc Colle Mezzano di Biserno is quite promising. Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi now runs the estate following the exit of his uncle, founder Lodovico Antinori. Lenzi has brought a new feeling of youthful energy to his family’s estate, along with a contemporary approach that results in wines with a bit more vibrancy than those from the Lodovico Antinori era. The entry-level Insoglio del Cinghiale remains one of my favorite wines in its peer group. After a few quiet years during the generational transition, Biserno is once again an estate to watch closely." (2/2025)
