This is quite aromatically complex if markedly less elegant with its aromas of humus, pungent earth and sauvage nuances on the red currant and dark pinot fruit scents. There is very solid mid-palate concentration to the broad-shouldered flavors that also possess a refined mouth feel before culminating in a strikingly persistent, balanced and equally complex finish.

Full deep red. Captivating perfume of raspberry, iron, white pepper, dried rose and white flowers. Intensely flavored and vibrant, showing outstanding inner-mouth energy to its flavors of red fruits, flowers and saline minerality. The long finish boasts superb floral lift. Christophe Perrot-Minot keeps this wine in a reduced state in barrel, noting that it has a tendency to open much faster than the Mazoyères-Chambertin. (ST)
