This is a classic 'cuvée ronde', combining fruit from six different Premiers Crus to produce a stylish example of what Véronique Drouhin calls the 'cashmere of Burgundy'. Scented, balanced and ethereal, it's a transparent expression of Chambolle's range of terroirs, with sweet summer berry flavours and fine, velvety tannins. Accomplished stuff. (TA)

Dried-strawberry and black-cherry aromas with hints of dried cherries and orange blossom. It’s full-bodied with round, integrated and fine tannins. Tight and reserved on the finish.

Drouhin owns small plots in several Chambolle premiers crus—Noirots, Haut Doix, Borniques, Plantes and Combottes—and rather than attempting to vinify tiny lots of each, they harvest and ferment them together, a process that consistently produces a grand and graceful wine. If you want evidence of Philippe Drouhin’s prowess as a farmer, consider the tannins of this wine, how they keep the extravagance of the red and black fruit fit and muscular, and how the undertones of sour cherry and mineral keep the wine cool and zesty. A beautiful vintage for the expression of Chambolle.

A bright deep purple with crimson edge. First impressions were not so good, the bouquet being a little bit smudged, and the fruit slightly cooked and dry at the finish. Then, all change with air in the glass. The fruit freshens up and finishes very well. Cleaner and perfumed at the end.
