2005 Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Craipillot"

Int'l Wine Cellar
Review Date: 03/2007Bright red-ruby. Wild aromas of black raspberry and smoked meat. Fat and sweet, with a gamey, smoky quality that screams out Gevrey-Chambertin. More deeply pitched and earth-bound than the Vieilles Vignes and a bit less obviously sweet today. Rich but still youthfully unforthcoming. Finishes with substantial mouthcoating tannins and very good length.

Notes
Domaine Humbert Frères farms a small collection of parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, focusing on careful vineyard stewardship across the village’s limestone- and clay-based slopes. The 1er Cru Craipillot vineyard sits on the southern edge of Gevrey near Morey-St-Denis, where well-drained limestone soils and mid-slope exposures shape a precise expression of Pinot Noir. The 2005 bottling centers on the pedigree of this 1er Cru site and the domaine’s vineyard-driven philosophy within the Côte de Nuits.
