2004 Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Craipillot"
90
Burghound
Review Date: 03/2007This is completely different and stands in stark contrast to the exuberance of the Petite Chapelle as here the ripe and earth-infused nose is brooding and backward, leading to deep, sappy and intense flavors offer solid complexity and a dusty, mineral-infused finish of superior length. This is not quite as fine as the Petite Chapelle but trades finesse for punch. A delicious, fairly structured yet elegant wine.

Notes
Domaine Humbert Frères farms a small collection of vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, focusing on meticulous parcel work across the village’s limestone- and clay-based slopes. The 1er Cru Craipillot vineyard lies on the southern edge of Gevrey near Morey-St-Denis, where well-drained limestone soils and mid-slope exposure define a structured expression of Pinot Noir. The 2004 bottling centers on the pedigree of this 1er Cru site and the domaine’s vineyard-driven philosophy within the Côte de Nuits.
