2009 Jean-Michel Guillon Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

Burghound
Review Date: 01/2011Here the wood is prominent but importantly, not dominant as it still allows the stunningly complex earthy and gamy dark berry fruit aromas to shine. The concentrated and broad-shouldered flavors are quite supple on the mid-palate and deceptively forward yet underneath all of sap is a very firm tannic spine that will require upwards of 20 years to fully resolve. A beautiful wine but for the patient.

Notes
Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon farms parcels across the Côte de Nuits, focusing on small, carefully managed holdings rooted in limestone and clay soils typical of the region. Clos Vougeot Grand Cru lies on the historic walled vineyard between Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny, where variations of limestone, marl, and clay across the slope define one of Burgundy’s most storied terroirs. The 2009 bottling centers on the pedigree of this grand cru site and the domaine’s vineyard-focused approach to expressing the character of Clos Vougeot.
