2023 Domaine Michel Bouzereau Meursault 1er Cru "Genevrieres"

Decanter
Review Date: 01/2025The 2023 Meursault Genevrières from Domaine Michel Bouzereau seems richer than last year, with more melon and mirabelle plum aromas than citrus; the fruit is complemented by notes of anise and a hint of honey. The texture is creamy, and although the acidity is balanced at best, the extract of this enormous wine carries it to a lingering finish. The grapes are from 0.52ha in Genevrières-Dessous, planted in the late 80s. Although this is a dense and powerful style, it should drink well over the next 15 years.(CC)

The 2023 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has a wonderfully detailed bouquet with crushed stone filtering through the citrus fruit. The palate is very classy with a superb thread of acidity yet retains a sense of control, as if saving something for later. This is judiciously spiced, and its pithy finish has greater complexity than the preceding Charmes-Dessus. On par with last year's excellent release.I have extolled Bouzereau’s wines for several years now and they are beginning to surpass some of his more famous Meursault-based names at the Burgfest tasting. These are wines that come packed with flavor, perhaps missing subtlety for some, but they deliver the requisite salinity and tension to make them irresistible.(NM)

Pale lemon in colour. This has a little more herbal nature, more aromatic distinction, very classy on the palate as well with plenty of energy. Juicy as well, but this has classic proportions. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Oct 2024.

Note: also from a .52 ha parcel. A naturally exotic nose reveals notes of spiced tea, pear, crushed anise and a floral whiff. There is excellent richness and body to the intense and equally mineral-driven flavors that possess solid depth and persistence on the bone-dry, youthfully austere and beautifully balanced finale. This bitter lemon-inflected effort is very classy though note that it is sufficiently tightly wound to require at least some patience.*Burghound Outstanding!*
