Review Date: 01/20239 barrels from half a hectare. Lovely robust purple. There is a degree of weight, not quite so elegant as the Volnay but with decent substance. Good acidity, tannins well integrated. Promising. Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted Oct 2022.

Note: 2021 is the third vintage since the vineyard was replanted. This is also quite fresh with its combination of plum, red and dark currant, and pretty floral nuances and in particular, violet. There is again a lovely sense of energy to the detailed middleweight flavors that possess fine length and better balance on the youthfully austere finale.

The 2021 Beaune Les Vignes Franches 1er Cru has a lovely, refined bouquet with vibrant red fruit laced with sous-bois and subtle tobacco scents. Fine focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy, red berry fruit, crisp acidity and touches of sour cherry with a slightly hard landing on the finish. It just needs a little more flesh around the bones.(NM)
