The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a mixture of red and black fruit, beautifully delineated, hints of blood orange and crushed stone percolating through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, perfectly judged acidity, slightly granular in texture towards the finish that displays commendable weight and length. Again, there is just the right sapidity on the finish. Superb.(NM)

Cyrielle described this wine as a rock in a river that gets polished over time. She says that it's a wine you have to observe to fully appreciate. It is pretty and forward on the nose with enticing floral lift, sweet black cherries and ample minerality, and there is no doubt that its concentrated, harmonious flavor core will reveal more in time. The pliable tannins and supporting acidity nicely meld into the medium body. 2023-35

Lovely glowing purple, really sensual. But also firmer and with a bit of cherry kernel. This is two thirds Mazoyères which provides the steel. This is a good wine in 2020 but did not provide a step-up from the 1ers Crus.

Note: from a 1.47 ha holding of roughly 25+ year old vines that combines .61 ha in Charmes with .86 ha in Mazoyères; 20% new wood. Liqueur-like aromas of plum, dark cherry, earth and a hint of wood spice give way to supple and mouth coating yet tension-filled medium-bodied flavors that appear to be much more powerful than they usually are, all wrapped in a sappy, dusty, moderately austere and impressively long finish. Like the Clos du Château, the Charmes has made important qualitative strides over the past few years and is slowly approaching the level of its grand cru brethren after years of lagging.
