Reviewed March 2026One of the best Sauvignon Blancs in the world, the 2023 Château Couhins Blanc is based on 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sauvignon Gris and was aged eight months in 25% new French oak with the balance in neutral barrels and tank. Its medium gold hue is followed by a killer perfume of mineral-laced citrus, honeyed orange, crushed stone, and mint, with an almost Riesling-like minerality and very subtle diesel character. Medium-bodied and concentrated on the palate, it has bright, racy acidity and a great finish. This château needs way more attention in the market, and this beauty will keep for two decades.

This is one of those get‑it‑while‑you‑can wines that’s often sought and rarely found. Château Couhins is a small‑production, under‑the‑radar Pessac property that has gained real notoriety in recent years for its excellent white wine, but this chart‑topping 98‑point review puts it in an entirely different stratosphere. Considering the quality of the 2023 vintage, it’s no surprise that it’s a delicious rendition, but when you’re standing shoulder‑to‑shoulder with names like Smith Haut Lafitte and Domaine de Chevalier Blanc at this kind of price, it becomes another story altogether.
I really adore the Sauvignon Blanc drive in this wine—an elegant mix of floral, mineral, and stone‑fruit notes in a midweight palate with plenty of cut and layer after layer of detail. Wines like this are exactly why I’m enamored with great Bordeaux Blancs: they’re some of the most dynamic and rewarding white wines on the planet. I’ve been searching endlessly for more of this 2023, and it just landed—it won’t be long for our shelves.
