Review Date: 01/2025The usual classy fresh colour. The bouquet is a thing of beauty, very subtle, also supple, with floral notes. Silky in texture, the fruit is a darker red here, plus blueberry, more sensual than savoury though the finish brings us back to classic Clos de la Roche. All in harmony.

The 2023 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru doesn't quite have the panache of the Echézeaux on the nose, a bit obdurate at the moment thanks to a reduction that doesn't shift in the glass. A second glass is called for, and this is much more representative: more red fruit, raspberry and cranberry, and a touch of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with black cherries and blood orange on the entry. It is a "sunny" Clos de la Roche with sweet fruit and candied orange peel toward the finish. This is a well-crafted Clos de la Roche, but it's a small step behind the 2022.(NM)

Note: from a large 1.16 ha holding in Chabiots and Mochamps. This is also very firmly reduced and unreadable today. The delicious and intense middle weight flavors that do possess an appealing mouthfeel despite not being particularly concentrated that continues onto the lingering finale. At present this is pretty but not especially deep so at least some patience is in order.
