Aromas of red cherries, ground cooking spice, dried herbs and bark. Medium- to full-bodied with silky, fruit-soaked tannins. Rather expressive and bright with driving acidity and lovely spicy complexity. Lingering and steady.

I've loved everything I've tasted from Murdoch Hill in the past couple of weeks, and this 2021 Red Blend is no exception. It has brambly red berries and black tea spice on the nose, while in the mouth, the wine is balanced, satisfying and infused with fine tannins. When I pick up a non-discriminate "red blend," I do want it to be something like this. The acidity that laces its way through the finish is salty and fine—keeps things refreshing. (EL)

Notes

Murdoch Hill is a family-owned boutique winery located in the Adelaide Hills wine region of South Australia. The property has been in the Downer family since 1939, when the original farm was purchased by their grandfather. Vines were first planted on the land in 1998, marking the beginning of the estate’s modern winemaking history. Today the winery is run by third-generation winemaker Michael Downer, who focuses on producing high-quality cool-climate wines. Adelaide Hills provides ideal growing conditions, with cooler temperatures that help develop fresh, elegant flavors in the grapes.
