60% has been made in tank and 40% in barrel. I am very happy with this nose. The sunshine and volume of the vintage looks like it suits Valmur. An excellent volume of white fruit and flesh, a dusting of ripe citrus zest, a structure more typical of Cote d’Or, the oak fully integrated and proper persistence. Drink from 2027-2036. Tasted Jun 2024.

Domaine Moreau’s 2023 Valmur is equally complex and promising as the Vaudésir, but the wine is even a bit more reserved out of the blocks and will demand just a couple of years longer in the cellar before it blossoms. The wine’s aromatic constellation is outstanding, delivering scents of lemon, pear, a complex foundation of chalky soil tones, paraffin, dried flowers and a gentle framing of oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused, deep and very pure, with great soil signature, a beautiful core of fruit, lovely acids and grip and a long, seamlessly balanced and very, very promising finish. Just give it a bit of hibernation time. 2030-2065.

The Valmur from Domaine Christian Moreau is a vivacious wine with abundant aromas of ripe pear and melon, hints of acacia blossoms and spice underpinned with a flinty minerality. The texture has tension and snap, yet there a rich, almost plump side here that remains perfectly balanced with the crisp acidity; the finish echoes with a hint of 'beautiful bitterness'. The grapes are mostly from the 0.70ha parcel facing southeast; there is a bit from the northeast-facing side for balance. Undoubtedly charming on release, this will effortlessly age for 20 years or more.

Zingy and fresh, this has tremendous energy. Herbs, lime, musk melon and sea shells waft from the glass. The finish is long and resolutely mineral, with clear iodine notes. Don't rush to open this! There are approximately 1.25 ha of densely-planted vines between the southeast- (80%) and northwest-facing (20%) parts of the Grand Cru.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Part of this waiting to be replanted in 2026 – 0.6 ha currently in production. The freshness of the Blanchot but with more width of aroma. Incisive, cool, less juicy but still mouth-watering – the energy here is a mineral one – a wine of tension. The finish is a haunting one – that’s a great Valmur…"(01/2025)
