Like the Valmur, the 2023 les Clos from Domaine Moreau is a properly structured young grand cru and will want a bit of cellaring time. The bouquet is bright, youthfully complex and precise, offering up scents of pink grapefruit, lemon, citrus peel, a gorgeous base of chalky and flinty minerality, white lilies and a touch of oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and shows off gorgeous depth of fruit at the core, with fine mineral drive, zesty acids and a long, beautifully balanced finish that closes with excellent lift and grip. First class les Clos. 2030-2065.

Boasting a highly flattering nose of spring blooms, peach fuzz and Brazil nuts, this has a nicely chewy texture complimented by a dry, tugging finish. Roaring acidity makes the mouth water. It's hard to believe this saw 40% new oak—it's very well digested by the concentrated fruit. This is a single block of 2.9 ha.

Rich and luxurious, this impresses with pronounced aromas of ripe pear and nectarine with a strong undercurrent of oyster shell and spice. The texture is dense and powerful, and the wine is pleasant in cask but ideally should age for a decade before it will disclose its secrets. The walled clos on the lower slopes of the eastern edge of Les Clos was purchased by the Moreau family 120 years ago, in 1904. The grapes are fermented in cask to deliver this powerful, long-lived wine.(CC)

Pale lemon with a lime tint. The bouquet is sublime, with all the class of Clos yet in a refined way. The marine fossils are at work. There is adequate flesh but it is better controlled here, leading to a tighter finish. Understated, showing the sunshine in a balanced form, and pleasingly persistent. Drink from 2027-2038. Tasted Jun 2025.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "They have top, middle and bottom of the clos in this cuvée. Two bottlings of this – this and another part which will be bottled in May – later commercialising to get through the ‘hole’ of volume from 2024. Very pure and complex – maybe even a suggestion of aniseed in this complexity – beautifully detailed. Really wide, obviously concentrated – supported by fine minerality – the flavour melts with some small generosity over the palate. A palate that’s saturated with flavour in the finish – wow. I think I’d honestly want to wait 10 years for this – it will be great…"(01/2025)
