Charming plummy fruit aroma, and abundant extract and substance. Oddly, the wine – almost a year on at the time of tasting – is still fairly strict, but beyond this there is great potential. The grapes are from three-quarters of a hectare planted to old vines in the red clay soils near the top of the slope on the southern end of Beaune near Pommard.(CC)

The 2023 Clos des Aigrots is beautifully black fruity in personality this year, with plenty of sappiness on both the nose and palate. The wine’s aromatic constellation is superb, offering up notes of black plums, black cherries, raw cocoa, spit-roasted gamebird, violets, chalky soil tones, woodsmoke and a lovely framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with lovely focus and balance, great mineral drive, ripe tannins and a long, vibrant and impressively complex finish. Fine juice. (Drink between 2035-2080)

Not quite finished its malolactic. Richer purple, a touch of green apple, but otherwise a dark bright fruit. A vibrant energy, raspberry not strawberry, firmer than it will be at the back, with admirable persistence. This will be a fine Clos des Aigrots. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Dec 2024.

A cooler and even more elegant nose freely offers up its essence of red cherry, floral and crushed anise hints. The sleek, delicious and more mineral-driven middle weight flavors possess very good volume and persistence on the sneaky long finish that also displays a mild touch of austerity.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Greves is just north of the Jesus and doesn’t stick to the boots – different clays in and more in Aigrots that bring a different structure Ooh this is a large and really perfumed nose – it’s very föoral. A wine that shows a little more structure -not quite chiselled but in that direction – and an extra vibrancy to the finishing and a little more airy at the end – different – but also great !!"(01/2025)
