This is a wine that breathes aromatic complexity, showing leesy savoriness and almost meaty tones with rhubarb and cinnamon, wild strawberries and dried cherries. The inspiring nose is followed by a medium- to full-bodied palate, elegant tannins and refreshing, moderate acidity. Citrus vibrancy in the end. Drink or hold. (AF)

Forest floor, dog rose, dark spice and hay aromas mingle with woodland berry. Succulent and rounded, the palate features dried cherry, orange crush, mocha and licorice accompanied by close-grained tannins that leave a rather drying finish. (KO)

When we talk about Barbaresco, the commune of Treiso is known for its higher altitudes, giving Nebbiolo a notoriously ethereal, high-toned expression. But the Rombone cru is the fascinating exception—it provides the muscle and depth of Treiso. Ada Nada’s "Cichin" Riserva, sourced from their oldest vines in this prized vineyard, is a masterclass in balancing that inherent power with absolute, traditional transparency. Ada Nada is strictly old-school. They don't force extraction or mask the wine with new oak; instead, they let the terroir speak, resulting in a wine that vibrates with nervous energy. The nose is deeply savory and intellectual. It bypasses sweet fruit to deliver a profound, balsamic wave of camphor, licorice root, and tar, wrapped around a core of crushed wild cherry, dried rose petal, and white pepper. It has that "crunchy" tension I am always hunting for in Nebbiolo.

Notes

Ada Nada’s 'Rombone' Barbaresco 2020 is a poised and classically structured Nebbiolo from a historic cru in Treiso. The nose is refined and expressive, offering notes of red cherry, dried rose, and blood orange, with undertones of spice, licorice, and forest floor. On the palate, firm yet elegant tannins and lively acidity support a core of ripe red fruit and savory depth. The finish is long and layered, with lingering floral and mineral tones. A graceful and age-worthy Barbaresco that speaks clearly of site and tradition.
