Bodegas Fontana is run by Andreas Kubach MW and Sam Harrop MW—also the founders of Bideona in Rioja. Their goal with the “Mesta” wines is clear: to craft exceptional wines that significantly outperform their price. The winery sources grapes from 600 hectares of estate-owned vineyards in Uclés, where century-old oak trees dot the landscape. All vineyards are farmed organically, without pesticides, under strict yield and irrigation controls. Uclés’ continental climate—hot, sunny days followed by cool nights—helps develop concentrated flavors while preserving freshness. As production has grown, Kubach and Harrop have supplemented their estate fruit with grapes from trusted grower partners. Operating under a négociant-style model—but not as a cooperative—they retain full oversight to ensure organic practices and quality standards. This wine is 100% Tempranillo, fermented and aged in stainless steel, to preserve the vibrant youthful red fruit character.
