Review Date: 01/2026From two plots in Chassagne and two in Puligny. Pure pale colour. Lean, fresh, chiselled on the nose. I like this very much on the palate, though obviously some will prefer a riper style of wine. A real concentration of fresh apple, an extremely refreshing Chardonnay to drink on its own. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Oct 2025.

Already bottled, the 2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay expands aromatically with notes of nashi pear, white flowers and white peach, followed by a medium-bodied, racy and incisive palate that unites flesh with cut. It is sourced from vines in the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Its accessible style will make it immediately enjoyable upon release.
In 2024, Damien Colin began the harvest relatively late, on September 14, and it concluded on September 22. While he lost some 5% to 10% of the crop to frost that affected vineyards in Saint-Aubin, the principal cause of low yields—as for many growers—was intense mildew pressure throughout the season. Average yields stood at around 35 hectoliters per hectare for the whites, with lower-than-average pH levels and wines reaching, for the most part, between 11% and 11.5% potential alcohol at harvest. Nevertheless, he chose not to chaptalize, in pursuit of greater freshness. Despite these challenges, the wines largely belie the difficulties of the year. Pure and incisive, they are immediately legible, with each appellation clearly articulated by site and by its de facto hierarchy. From a stylistic standpoint, they inhabit a middle ground between 2011 and 2014.(WK)

From three different parcels in Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet, 2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay has a well-defined bouquet with crisp citrus fruit and just a touch of crushed stone. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, touches of praline in the background, fine weight if maybe just missing the nerve that I found in Colin's 2022.(NM)
