2021 Masseria Setteporte Etna Rosso
94
James Suckling
Review Date: 09/2023Aromas of blue fruits and metal shavings with some dried lava follow through to a medium body, with excellent depth and layers of structured tannins. Some black pepper and graphite to the fruit. Slightly chewy but polished. Give this two or three years to soften and come together. From organically grown grapes. Best from 2025.

Notes
The 2021 Masseria Setteporte Etna Rosso is an organic, highly classic expression of Nerello Mascalese (95%) and Nerello Cappuccio (5%) grown on the south-western slopes of Mount Etna in Biancavilla. Located at an altitude of 700 to 730 meters, these terraced vineyards yield a wine defined by its distinct volcanic imprint. The 2021 vintage is medium-bodied, bright, and deeply savory. The nose opens with an intense aromatic profile of sour cherry, cranberry, and wild Mediterranean brushwood, accented by notes of cloves, black tea, and a signature flinty minerality. On the palate, the wine is focused and vertical, pairing a crunchy, high-toned acidity with firm, tightly wound tannins. It finishes long and dry with a savory, stony grip.
