From a steep terraced southwest-facing vineyard in Contrada Monte Colla at 750 to 780 metres above sea level with a high proportion of clay and sand, this is perfumed and sapid with good grip and lovely purity of hedgerow berries. A herbal edge gives lift and adds interest. It's sure to fill out with time in the bottle and gain in complexity. In fact, Frank calls this his ‘“Hermitage” of Etna‘. Tank sample. (JB)

The 2022 Frank Cornelissen "Munjebel MC" (Monte Colla) is a powerful, single-vineyard Nerello Mascalese from an extremely steep, sun-drenched site. The nose is intense and "meaty," featuring black cherry, blackcurrant, and blood orange alongside savory notes of meats, smoke, and dried oregano. On the palate, it is full-bodied and robust—Frank’s "Hermitage of Etna"—balancing concentrated dark fruit with high acidity and firm, grippy tannins. It is a structured, deep, and vertical wine that represents the more powerful side of Etna's northern valley.
