Review Date: 01/2025A little more yellow in colour, not quite so fresh a nose. This Genevrières has the juniper touch on the palate, more restrained than Charmes, and keeps the tension, plus length in the mouth. One of the earliest to be picked, with Combettes, in order to retain acidity. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Oct 2024.

The 2023 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing beautifully, bursting with aromas of pear and peach mingled with white flowers and struck match. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, it's lively and precise, with a long, saline finish.
Winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team have once again delivered a strong portfolio chez Jadot. Barnier stressed the importance of sorting and of vigilance during élevage, in particular where acid rot made an appearance, and he didn't hesitate to perform a saignée for cuvées where yields where high. As I've written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. What's more, barrels are now used four rather than three times, meaning the percentage of new oak overall has fallen. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that's too warm when it enters the winery, something especially important during the warm 2023 harvest. This vintage also marks the third vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.(WK)

Voluptuous, buttery and rich, with aromas of ripe apples, almonds and a touch of honey. At this stage, it is showing a bit more influence from cask ageing, although this will likely fade over time. The texture is richer than the Charmes, rich and creamy. This is a hedonistic wine, but there is just enough acidity to bring it into balance. Winemaker Frédéric Barnier blocked the malolactic conversion to retain freshness, and it has made an appreciable difference.(CC)

A naturally exotic nose freely reveals its aromas of jasmine tea, mineral reduction, star anise and pretty floral wisps. The gorgeously textured, rich and caressing medium weight flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality on the equally dry finish that is youthfully austere. This is fairly tightly wound at present but I suspect that it could be approached after only 4 to 5 years, though it should easily develop and improve for longer.
