The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Prouges, which lies on marl soil, has a tensile and delineated nose, crushed stone permeating the yellow fruit, fresher than the Clos de Jeanne cuvée. The palate is edgy on the entry, a little creamy in texture yet complex, with palpable mineralité on the saline finish. The old vines, around 75 years of age, really impart complexity to this vintage.(NM)

Burghound

Review Date: 10/2025
Note: from Fuissé fruit. Ripe and moderately exotic aromas are comprised by notes of white and yellow peach, lychee and citrus confit trimmed in noticeable but not invasive wood influence. Here too the palate impression of the medium weight flavors is generous, round and caressing, indeed opulent, while the citrus zest-suffused finish is finer and sleeker. Fine potential here, especially for a villages-level wine.*Burghound Outstanding!*

The Clos des Prouges is on too gentle a slope to be 1er Cru (just 6%). Old vines, 75 years plus, on a marl rich soil which holds the water well. Mid lemon yellow. A lifted bouquet, a little lemon balm, very stylish, then some slight youthful bitterness behind alongside the acidity, retaining the balance of the finish. Hazelnuts. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Jun 2025.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "The first vineyard that was bought in Pouilly by Louis Jadot in 2005. Originally vinified at the Chateau des Jacques. 2 ha. Not yet a 1er cru – it will be reassessed in 15 years – apparently, there wasn’t sufficient historical info. A small extra parcel in this now. This is much deeper, the aromas show much minerality. More chiselled architecture, zesty citrus bitters again. The first wine with a touch of creamy oak that shows right in the finish – but so delicious too, the last notes are pure mineral. A beauty…"(11/2025)
