The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Virondot 1er Cru is a worthy follow-up to the impressive 2022. Very complex and harmonious on the nose, it just could not be from anywhere but Chassagne, combining very subtle yellow fruit notes with stirring mineralité. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It's quite energetic at the moment, which will hopefully be captured in the bottle. There's a very sustained spicy aftertaste that completes a great Chassagne.(NM)

Burghound

Note: from a whopping 2.02 ha parcel, which effectively means that the domaine owns 89% of the appellation; because the other owner does not declare their wine as En Virondot, Mollard jokingly calls her version a "commercial" monopole. A distinctly cool if still ripe nose somewhat grudgingly offers up its array of green fruit, freshly sliced citrus, fennel and an admirably discreet application of oak. The dense, palate soaking and enveloping flavors are also rich to the point of opulence while concluding in a bitter zest-suffused finale. This needs to develop better depth because while it is certainly delicious, it's a bit simple at present. I would note that this wine has an excellent aging track record and my rating offers the benefit of the doubt that it will in time add complexity.*Burghound Outstanding!*

The 2023 Domaine Marc Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "En Virondot" is an exquisite snapshot of Chassagne-Montrachet. The first sip immediately took me back to the good old days of sipping Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet with my father-in-law. He was particular and discerning when it came to Chardonnay. The nose is sensational, following the palate note for note. There's remarkable intensity without sacrificing finesse. Gorgeous apricot and baked apple notes are interwoven with a fine nectar-like thread, lifted by creamy lemon acidity and unfolding into a long finish of baking spices and the lacy caramel top of a crème brûlée.
