Founded in 1878 in Rothes, Glen Spey has long been one of Speyside’s quiet contributors, prized by blenders for its clean, grassy malt character and restrained fruit. Official single malt releases are uncommon, which makes well chosen independent casks especially compelling for those who want to explore the distillery’s true personality. This special single cask was distilled in January 2012 and bottled in Summer 2025 after 13 years of maturation, including 7.5 years in a 1st fill bourbon hogshead. Bottled non-chill filtered at its natural 57.4 percent ABV, just 234 bottles were produced. The nose opens with confectionary sweetness, stone fruit and toasted almond before developing into vanilla custard and soft pastry. The palate is gently oily, delivering orchard fruit, sweet grain and warming spice. The finish lingers with creamy vanilla and bright barley character. A beautifully pure example of Speyside spirit framed by active American oak.
