The Giacomo Conterno 2022 Barolo Arione opens to beautifully perfumed aromas of wild cherry, rose and delicate spice with the finesse and precision that distinguish this celebrated Serralunga d'Alba vineyard. The wine is remarkably open and expressive at this early stage, offering immediate charm rather than the stern, tightly wound personality often associated with young Barolo destined for decades of aging. That early accessibility should not be mistaken for simplicity, however, as the wine retains impressive balance, freshness and layered complexity. (ML)

Even in this warm, dry year, the 2022 Barolo Arione offers tons of the mineral and savory intensity that is such a signature of this site. Sage, dried herbs, graphite, menthol, licorice and white pepper complement a core of deeply layered, dark Serralunga fruit. The rich mid-palate and sustained finish suggest a very bright future. (AG)
