The 2024 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese comes with a touch of deadnettle, red stone and red apple peel on the nose. Juiciest orange and tangerine sweetness on the palate is tempered by ripe zestiness. Lightness, svelteness and brightness are central to the 2024, turning it into a seductive, savory, stony proposition. (Sweet)(AK)

The 2024 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese is clear and precise yet still discreet on the somewhat muted yet fresh and promising nose that is most of all savory and flinty. Finely racy on the first attack, this is a savory and zesty, finely grippy and juicy Spätlese with a mouth-filling, grippy, nicely lemon-bitter and energetic finish. This is very promising. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in October 2025.(SR)

Distinctive, full and energetic, with zesty floral perfume and an expressive range of pink grapefruit granita, pear and dried herbs. Balance comes from the acidity but also the quinine bitterness, with the subtlest hints of fresh ginger, Campari orange zest and smoke. While I realize there are a number of people who turn up their nose at a sweeter Riesling, you are not on my Christmas Card list. These wines are beautiful and with some spicy foods they can be absolutely transformative. The nose on this is lush and super pretty, with this kind of tropical mango tea note, but also with super ripe and juicy peach, super juicy pear, lots of flowers. The palate is such a peach treat, really juicy and fresh with great vibrant acidity that really masks how sweet the wine actually is, it does not come across cloying in the least and the acidity pushes through and keeps the mouth watering until the sugar is gone. I love this so much, it's a great price for a great wine and have this with some spicy Asian food and say thanks later.

The 2024er Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese was made from fruit harvested at 83° Oechsle from over 70-year-old vines in the Klösterchen, Layenhaus, Pläkert sectors and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (56 g/l). It has a quite perfumed and attractively ripe nose of ripe pear, acacia, jasmine, rose, plum, candied pineapple, ginger, and greengage. The wine hits the palate with quite some racy acidity but develops more creaminess and juicier elements as it evolves. The finish is slightly rounder and has a good playful side. This impressive Spätlese needs some aging to fully deliver. 2034-2049."(10/2025)
