The purity of fruit and elegance are so beautiful, perfumed and ethereal. it’s medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and gorgeous black cherries, blackberries and brambleberries with a hint of cedar. Vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2028 and beyond.

Pouring a bright red hue with orange-tinged edges, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is high-toned and shy on opening, but it begins to unfurl with air, revealing mint, blood orange, redcurrants, cranberries, juniper, and brambly herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully structured, with a mouthwatering spine of acidity, fine, coiled tannins, and a long finish that stays lifted and precise. Tasted a second time, it comes together more completely, gaining seamless suppleness and deeper mineral underpinnings that carry through the finish. It’s a fantastic Brunello that should only improve for decades. Drink 2027-2050. (AF)

This is the top-end wine from Carlo Ferrini. The Giodo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino shows notable elegance and grace, especially in this classic vintage. It holds back at first, inviting patience, which bodes well for its long-term aging potential. There is complexity and beauty, and the wine clearly separates itself from the mid-tier "Prètto" bottling, as expected. Giodo moves with delicate footprints, and on returning to an open bottle the next day, the streamlined mouthfeel and lasting freshness became even more apparent, reflecting both the classic nature of the year and the maturity of the vineyards. Production has been significantly reduced to 8,500 bottles, compared to 16,000 bottles in 2020, with all fruit sourced from 20-year-old vines and selected barrique by barrique to create a wine of depth and precision. The focused and delicious Giodo 2021 Brunello is the best wine I’ve had to date from this estate. It entices with aromas of violet, ripe woodland berry, dark spice and Mediterranean brush. The delicious palate takes over where the nose leaves off, delivering layers of juicy Morello cherry, fine tobacco blend, licorice and blood orange while velvety tannins and fresh acidity provide impeccable balance. Notes

The 2021 Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is a monumental and ethereal expression of Sangiovese, crafted by the legendary enologist Carlo Ferrini from a vintage already being hailed as a modern classic. On the nose, it is strikingly pure and perfumed, offering a vital ensemble of wild strawberries, redcurrant, and pomegranate layered with sophisticated notes of bergamot, flint, and exotic sweet spices. The palate is medium-to-full bodied and remarkably graceful, balancing a concentrated core of black cherries and bramble fruit with ultra-fine, velvety tannins and a vibrant, cooling acidity. It finishes with immense length and energy, marked by a savory mineral snap and lingering tones of blood orange and licorice. This is a diamond-sharp Brunello that prioritizes elegance and transparency, built for long-term cellaring but possessing a seamless harmony even in its youth.
