Reviewed March 2026The 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge chez Fontaine was raised in twenty percent new oak in this vintage. The wine had shut down a bit after its bottling, but was still showing very nicely, offering up a bright and complex nose of cherries, red plums, cocoa powder, pigeon, woodsmoke and a lovely base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and well balanced, with a lovely core of juicy red fruit, with good soil undertow, fine balance and lovely length and grip on the nascently complex finish. This will be a very good example. 2033-2065.

(from 6 different lieux-dits). A distinct pepper character adds breadth to the aromas of mostly red and dark currant. There is a bit more volume to the more refined, if not especially concentrated, flavors that display good length on the lightly rustic and dusty finale. This could be enjoyed young but I would suggest at least a few years of keeping first with the goal of adding better depth.

The 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge offers raspberry and dark cherries on the nose, with just a little herbaceousness in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly angular tannins but feels fresh and saline and should give four to five years' drinking pleasure.(NM)

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: ":6 different parcels. A more direct ripeness of red fruit. Nicely round – the wine framed with a more structural tannin, but it’s completely grainless. Delicious, but I’d keep it 2-3 years before drinking." (01/2026)
