The Fontaines’ vines in Vergers are most sixty-five years of age, but there is a parcel that is decidedly older and may be around the same age as their vines in Maltroie. The wine is beautiful expressive today, offering up a complex aromatic constellation of lime, pear, a touch of pink grapefruit, a lovely foundation of chalky soil tones, vanillin oak and a topnote of fruit blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, focused and full, with a lovely core of fruit, fine mineral drive and grip, racy acids and lovely precision on the long, seamlessly balanced and complex finish. Another beautiful premier cru Chassagne! 2028-2060.

Herbal tea, warm almonds, pluots and pie spice lift on the fragrant nose. Lemony acidity nicely counters the moderately creamy mid-palate. Céline says that this wine is always pretty early on, but this will easily age well for the next seven to eight years, too, thanks to its zooming acidic tension.

The 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru has an expressive nose with walnut and light fumé scents filtering through the citrus fruit. Good intensity. The palate has a subtle reduction on the entry, good intensity, more citrus-driven than the Clos des Murées with a sorbet-fresh finish that leaves a dab of ginger on the aftertaste. Excellent.(NM)

Note: from Vergers proper. This is suffering from post-bottling reduction and is presently unreadable. More interesting are the fresh, vibrant and succulent middle weight flavors that possess very good power on the equally clean, dry and citrus-suffused finale. This definitely needs better depth though so plan on at least a few years of keeping.
