The 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet villages bottling from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is excellent. The wine delivers a bright and complex bouquet of apple, pear, chalky soil tones, a touch of lemon peel, a deft framing of vanillin oak and a topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, vibrant and precise, with a beautiful core of fruit, lovely soil inflection, racy acids and a very long, pure and impeccably balanced finish. Fine juice. 2026-2050+.

Enough wood to remark upon sets off the ripe yet fresh aromas of rose petal, rosemary oil and various white orchard fruit scents. As one would expect, there is better volume to the succulent, round and delicious middle weight flavors that conclude in a bitter lemon-inflected finish that is sufficiently compact to need 4 to 8 years of cellaring.

Bottled in mid-August, the 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Village has a struck match note on the nose at the moment. The palate is a little reductive on the entry. Fine acidity, fresh and sapid, with quite a pronounced nutty note on the finish that reminds me of a Meursault. Fine.(NM)

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "First 3 wines are bottled – since August. The largest cuvée of the domaine with 1.7 ha in 6 parcels – in 2025, they have a new parcel of villages of 0.7 ha. More sulfur used here because of oïdium worries – ‘we lost nothing…’ A width that is very fine, slightly airy, but pure aromas. A tiny bead of gas, but lovely energy and fine clarity of flavour. A proper burst of finishing flavour – a wonderful finish – delicious…"(12/2025)
