The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is vinified with 40% whole bunch, including the central stem, as the acidity is already naturally higher. This has a classically styled bouquet, cool and refined with slightly darker fruit…you would never guess this was picked on September 20. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with crunchy red fruit and fine tannins, quite peppery toward the linear finish. There is a strictness about this Lavaux Saint-Jacques with a very saline finish. It will fill out during the second year in barrel. Excellent.(NM)

This is the domaine's largest premier cru with 1.5 ha coming from five different parcels. It's a true representation of the whole cru. Lifted red fruits are accompanied by stony, minerally notes. Fresh acidity tingles the palate, and the tannins are long and lacey. Sublimely elegant, this will charm early on in this vintage but is built to last.

One third classic whole bunch vinification. Gorgeous red fruit, strawberry, slightly more lactic at the back but very long. A little softer at the finish. Perhaps not quite the equal of the best chez Mortet this year. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.

Note: from 5 different parcels situated all over the appellation that total 1.17 ha; note that this is sold under both the Domaine label as well as that of Arnaud Mortet; 33% whole cluster. Firm reduction presently overshadows the fruit. Otherwise there is excellent volume to the seductive and succulent slightly bigger-bodied flavors that conclude in a compact, dusty, youthfully austere mineral-driven finale. This has long been one of Mortet's signature wines and the 2023 version should only add to that legacy.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*
