2024 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Bougros"

Review Date: 10/2025Rich, warm and long, Fèvre's Bougros has noticeably more power than the fine, elegant premiers crus in 2024. The aromas here range from nectarine to peach and quince; the texture is dense yet lively. The grapes are from the domaine's holdings of more than 4ha – the domaine owns almost half of the climat. The slopes face southwest, and the soil is deeper than the steep Côte de Bouguerots that lines the river.(CC)

Note: from an incredible <6 ha parcel; from yields of only 7.5 hl/ha in 2024. This too instantly makes its origins clear with aromas of iodine, algae, ocean breeze and shrimp shell. As one might reasonably expect, there is markedly more size, weight and muscle to the broad-shouldered flavors that conclude in a compact, youthfully austere and highly persistent finale. This is a classic Bougros that is undeniably built-to-age and a wine that's going to need it.

These very old vines planted by William then by his father before him, produced a highly detailed, impressively sophisticated wine in this unusual vintage. Linden, chamomile, Asian pears and crushed chalk soar from the glass. Invigorating and racy, this seems like it will take its time to unfold.

A yield of 12 hl/ha. Lemon and lime in colour. There is a certain power, but not vast weight either. Precision and freshness, says Didier Seguier. Still a light peachiness and a little salty bitterness behind. The Bougros has really not yet developed its full potential, but shows promise. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Jul 2025.
