All the richness one wants in a Bâtard is supplied by Chartron’s 2024 wine from this grand cru. There are lush, ripe aromas of pear and melon with accents of butter, spice and linden flowers. The texture is silky and dense, but there is abundant freshness here to keep everything in balance. This vintage has more balance and elegance than some recent 'global warming' vintages. It is a wine of refinement that can enjoy a long life in the cellar. The grapes are from a small 0.12ha parcel on the Puligny side.(CC)

There are also four barrels of the 2024 Bâtard-Montrachet from Domaine Jean Chartron, so this wine was also raised in twenty-five percent new oak in this vintage. The wine is excellent in this vintage, offering up a vibrant and youthful bouquet of apple, nectarine, a touch of passion fruit, chalky soil tones, vanillin oak and a floral topnote of honeysuckle. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with excellent soil signature, a fine spine of acidity, excellent focus and balance and a long, complex and very promising finish. 2031-2065+.

Four barrels made. Mid lemon yellow. An undeveloped nose, then a wealth of riper fruit, some yellow plums, a fair degree of weight, especially further back on the palate. A sound Bâtard which should develop well. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Oct 2025.

The 2024 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comprises four barrels this year. Harvested a little later, it has a touch more tropical tones on the nose yet there is still admirable mineralité and tension. The palate is vibrant on the entry, quite strict and linear, more malic on the palate than on the nose with a dash of spice that comes through on the finish. Good potential, though in some ways quite uncompromising.(NM)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "‘Almost’ Chassagne side More vertical and cushioned – an impression of super texture. The structure impresses with a mm of cushion vs the Corton-Charlemagne. That’s a grand Vin."(11/2025)
