Review Date: 02/2024A preview of a wine that will not be released until 2026, the 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva is a jeweled ruby color and is very expressive on the nose at this stage, with lovely clarity and concentration in its notes of wet stones, framboise, rose petal, and pure orange. It feels trapped in time, with bright, refined tannins and mouthwatering freshness without ever feeling out of it. Reminding me of the moment when an orchestra is tuning and becomes perfectly in tune, so the whole room resonates, though it's not about being louder, this wine ignites all the senses. It’s a truly superb and singular wine from Le Chiuse. Bravo. Now to wait another two years for its release. (AF)

Notes
2016 Le Chiuse Brunello di Montalcino Riserva "Diecianni" The 2016 "Diecianni" (meaning "ten years") is a monumental release that represents the pinnacle of the Le Chiuse estate. Following the family’s tradition of extreme patience, this wine is held at the winery for a full decade before being unleashed—merging the power of the "vintage of a lifetime" (2016) with the sophisticated development of a late-release Riserva. The nose is deep, vertical, and incredibly complex, offering evolved notes of blackberries and strawberry jam layered with tertiary scents of tobacco, tilled earth, and restrained dark chocolate. Subtle hints of violet, star anise, and mint provide a cooling lift to the aromatic profile. On the palate, it is full-bodied and majestic, shining with a crisp, diamond-sharp acidity and firm, velvety tannins that remain grippy yet refined. The finish is exceptionally long and resonant, marked by a savory, stony minerality and a lingering balsamic persistence. A legendary Brunello that pays homage to the estate's Biondi-Santi heritage, combining structural "grandeur" with the unmistakable elegance of the 2016 vintage.
